About the event

William E. Forster is perhaps one of Burley’s most well-known residents.

He made a lasting impact on how the village prospered and developed in

the late 19th Century. He was also an influential politician both nationally

and internationally. The walking route will pass many of the buildings that

form part of Forster’s local legacy, including Wharfeside, the home he built,

the Queen’s Hall and Greenholme Mill before finishing at his grave at God’s

Acre, Bradford Road. En route we will hear about his life and achievements

on both the local and national stage. The walk will be at a leisurely pace

along lanes, tracks and roadside paths.
