About the event

Burley’s transition from an agricultural to industrial based community took place from the mid-18th Century onwards leading to a growth in population, commerce and institutions. Visiting the sites of eight mills alongside water courses between Burley Woodhead and Burley Weir the walk will trace historical changes, delving into the purpose of the mills and their impact on the local economy and environment. The walk will be on lanes, tracks and field paths. There will be a moderate ascent up to Burley Woodhead at the start of the walk and a number of squeeze stiles. Please bring enough to drink. We hope drinks will be available at Bleach Mill about half way through the walk.
