Burley Summer Festival 2017
The Festival week this year will run from Saturday August 19th to Sunday August 27th with a small number of events taking place immediately before or after the main week. Planning of this year’s programme is underway. We would warmly welcome suggestions for events that residents would like to see considered, or any which individuals or groups would like to offer. Alongside the regular events which provide the core of the Festival programme we want to include new ones. The Festival offers an excellent opportunity for activity groups to offer taster sessions to attract new members.
Sunday 20th is the BIG DAY in the week and the ever popular Burley Classic Show will take place alongside the Craft Fair and the Food and Drinks market, and many other events. As a curtain raiser to the week there will be the return of a ceilidh this year on Friday 18th. On Saturday August 19th we welcome the Wharfedale Chamber Ensemble for its annual concert. Throughout the week there will be an expanded programme of walks organised by ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ ; the ever popular Scarecrow Trail; a variety of children’s events, and much more. As events are confirmed we will provide an update on this Festival website.
The Festival programme will be delivered to all households in July and it provides opportunities for local businesses and organisations to advertise, with May 2nd being the deadline for providing adverts. The final deadline for information in the programme on specific events is May 9th.
The Festival is organised by a Committee supported by additional volunteers in the run up to the Festival and during the week. At the recent AGM the following people were elected for the year:
Chair: Sylvia Tilford; Vice Chair: Nick Turnbull: Secretary: Jan Lepley; Treasurer: Chris Hill.
Committee members: Harvey Bosomworth; Malcolm Fisher; Fiona Lumb; Jon Lycett; Danny Schofield; Liz Varghese; Mike Walker; and Dennis Warwick.
Currently we have a small number of vacancies on the Committee and would like to hear from anyone who would like to get involved in helping to organise the Festival - please contact Sylvia Tilford on email@example.com.
We will be providing regular updates on the Festival on this website, through press releases, and via social media - follow us on Twitter and on Facebook.
