Burley Summer Festival 2018
Late February saw the first instance of our reviewing a multitude of suggestions for events to be featured in this year's Summer Festival - more than any ever put forward in previous years.
Mentioning years, this is the Tenth Anniversary of Burley's Summer Festival, and it has been decided by the committee to celebrate the occasion wholeheartedly, and there will hopefully be plenty of opportunities to do so.
As you may have seen in the Ilkley Gazette, this year's Scarecrow Trail theme is "Once Upon a Bookcase", chosen so as to provide a very broad topic which covers all ages and interests - the details are now being worked on and will be released when they become available, but you can now start to plan your strategy well in advance, unlike previous years.
After last year's runaway success we will once again be featuring the Festival Food & Drink Fair - utilising the car park of The Grange, and the adjacent footpaths, an arrangement that proved to be very popular with visitors and stallholders alike. As of writing, we have already received 15 bookings (and the £25 fees), so if you want to reserve your place as a stallholder in this year's event then you need to take a look at the menu page 'Food Market' where you'll find a booking form along with more information. The event is on Sunday 19 August between 10am and 3pm.
And of course that Sunday is also when we feature the ever expanding Burley Classic Show, being held in the grounds of Burley Cricket Club on Grange Road. Last year we were again swamped by entries, and it's a challenge to cater for over 350 vehicles, but the organisers seem to cope admirably each year - helped by exhibitors pre-registering their attendance. The registration forms are now available for entrants to complete and forward to us, and can be accessed on the dedicated separate website. Don't delay - it's now a case of first come, first served.
Our next committee meeting is on the evening of Wednesday 21 March, so if you wish to volunteer your services then simply contact Sylvia before that date.
We are now awaiting this year's Festival logo and the finished design for the printed programme - should be with us at our next meeting.
And, of course, the Burley Moor Fun Run is also in place - this year's event will take place on Saturday 10 November, so make a note in your diary. Registrations haven't started yet.
