Burley Summer Festival 2018
Welcome to this year’s Summer Festival when we will be celebrating our 10th year. In our first year we had over 50 events during the Festival and by last year had grown to over 80. Every year there has been a varied mix of events with a small number taking place every year, including the Burley Classic Show, which again will be a highlight of our first weekend. The programme for this year is almost complete and will include old favourites and also new events.
The first weekend will feature the Dog Show, Food and Drinks Market, Burley Classic Show, Craft Market, Bands in the Park, Wharfedale Chamber Ensemble and many more events. Registrations for the Burley Classic Show have already exceeded 230 so we encourage you to register promptly to avoid disappointment - for a form, and to view current registrations go to www.burleyclassicshow.org .
For the first Saturday evening, August 18th, we have booked a live band in the Queen's Hall to lead our 10 year celebratory party night. Watch out for the start of ticket sales for this event. Throughout the Festival we will mark the 10th year in various ways ending with birthday cake in the park on Sunday 26th immediately before the Scarecrows prize giving.
Now is the time to start thinking about the Scarecrows you want to make this year. The theme is: ‘Once Upon a Bookcase’ - a broad topic which caters for all ages and interests. Full details can be found on this website.
During the week there will be a series of walks led by Walkers are Welcome, a variety of children’s activities, music, dance and and drama events and many activities to meet various special interests. We will be publicising events here on the website as well as on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and printed programmes will be delivered in early July. Booking will begin on July 16th.
As ever we will be looking to recruit volunteers to help in the run up to the Festival as well as during the Festival itself. Full details will be available here on the website during May.
Our next committee meeting is on the evening of Wednesday 19 May, so if you wish to volunteer your services then simply contact Sylvia before that date.
And, of course, the Burley Moor Fun Run is also in place - this year's event will take place on Saturday 10 November, so make a note in your diary. Registrations haven't started yet.
